:
Mexicans, at the cry of war
Mexicanos, al grito de guerra
prepare the steel and the bridle
el acero aprestad y el bridón
and let the earth tremble in its depths
y retiemble en sus centros la tierra
at the sonorous roar of the cannon.
al sonoro rugir del cañón.
Crown, O Fatherland, your temples with olive
Ciña ¡oh Patria! tus sienes de oliva
with the divine archangel of peace
de la paz el arcángel divino
who in heaven your eternal destiny
que en el cielo tu eterno destino
was written by the finger of God.
por el dedo de Dios se escribió.
But if a foreign enemy should dare
Mas si osare un extraño enemigo
to profane your soil with his tread
profanar con su planta tu suelo
think, O beloved Fatherland, that heaven
piensa ¡oh Patria querida! que el cielo
gave you a soldier in each son.
un soldado en cada hijo te dio.
War, war without truce on whoever tries
¡Guerra, guerra sin tregua al que intente
to stain the emblems of the fatherland!
de la patria manchar los blasones!
War, war! soak the native banners
¡Guerra, guerra! los patrios pendones
in waves of blood.
en las olas de sangre empapad.
War, war! on the mountain, in the valley
¡Guerra, guerra! en el monte, en el valle
let the dreadful cannons thunder,
los cañones horrísonos truenen,
and let the sonorous echoes resound
y los ecos sonoros resuenen
with the cries of Union! Liberty!
con las voces de ¡Unión! ¡Libertad!
Before, fatherland, that your unarmed sons
Antes, patria, que inermes tus hijos
should bend their necks beneath the yoke,
bajo el yugo su cuello dobleguen,
let your fields be watered with blood,
tus campiñas con sangre se rieguen,
let his foot be stamped upon blood.
sobre sangre se estampe su pie.
And let your temples, palaces, and towers
Y tus templos, palacios y torres
fall with horrid thunder
se derrumben con hórrido estruendo
and let their ruins remain saying:
y sus ruinas existan diciendo:
here was the fatherland of a thousand heroes.
de mil héroes la patria aquí fue.
Fatherland! Fatherland! your sons swear to you
¡Patria! ¡Patria! tus hijos te juran
to breathe out their life at your altars
exhalar en tus aras su aliento
if the clarion with its warlike tone
sí el clarín con su bélico acento
calls them to fight with courage.
los convoca a lidiar con valor.
For you the olive wreaths!
¡Para ti las guirnaldas de oliva!
A memory of glory for them!
¡Un recuerdo para ellos de gloria!
A laurel for you of victory!
¡Un laurel para ti de victoria!
A tomb for them of honor!
¡Un sepulcro para ellos de honor!
