Phleng Chat Thai · เพลงชาติไทย
Thailand's national anthem, "Phleng Chat Thai," has a complex history originating in 1871 and evolving through several versions after the 1932 coup. The current music was officially adopted in 1939, with its final lyrics also adopted that same year.
King's visit to Singapore inspired the creation of the first Thai national anthem.
Following a coup, the royal anthem was replaced, and Peter Feit's new music was composed and first played.
Revised lyrics by Chan Kamwilai were officially adopted for the new national anthem.
The nation was renamed Thailand, prompting a contest for new lyrics to reflect the change.
Luang Saranuprapan's lyrics won the contest and were officially adopted, along with the music.
A law mandated the anthem be played daily at 8 AM and 6 PM, with citizens standing in respect.
By law, the national anthem must be played daily at 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. nationwide, during which citizens are required to stand and show respect.
