Forged from the Love of Liberty
Originally composed by Patrick Castagne for the West Indies Federation, “Forged From the Love of Liberty” was reworked after the federation's 1962 dissolution. It was subsequently chosen as the national anthem for Trinidad and Tobago, first played on its independence day.
Patrick Castagne composes "A Song for Federation" for the proposed West Indies Federation.
The West Indies Federation is dissolved, partly due to Trinidad and Tobago seeking independence.
Castagne reworks his original song, adapting the text for Trinidad and Tobago's national anthem contest.
His reworked composition, “Forged From the Love of Liberty”, is selected as the winning entry.
The anthem is played for the first time as Trinidad and Tobago gains independence.
Trinidad and Tobago's national anthem was originally composed for a different political entity, the West Indies Federation, which dissolved before the country achieved independence.
