  1. 1947

King Abdulaziz requested Egyptian composer Abdul Rahman Al-Khateeb to create an anthem, resulting in the music for "Aash Al Maleek."

  2. 1958

Mohammed Talat wrote the first set of lyrics for the anthem, though they were not widely used.

  3. 1960s-1970s

A different "royal salute" was often used in recordings, but "Aash Al Maleek" remained the official national anthem.

  4. 1984

King Fahd commissioned new lyrics from poet Ibrahim Al Khafaji, which became the official text for the anthem.

For over two decades (1960s-1970s), a different 'royal salute' was often presented as the national anthem in recordings, despite 'Aash Al Maleek' remaining official.
