Jamaica, Land We Love
Jamaica's national anthem, "Jamaica, Land We Love," was adopted upon gaining independence in 1962. Its music and lyrics were created separately and then arranged by Mapletoft Poulle following a national competition.
Hugh Braham Sherlock wrote the lyrics for the anthem.
Robert Charles Lightbourne composed the music for the anthem.
Mapletoft Poulle arranged the music and lyrics, submitting them to the National Anthem Committee.
The combined music and lyrics were selected in a national competition for the anthem.
On July 19, upon independence, "Jamaica, Land We Love" was officially adopted as the national anthem.
The first word of the anthem's second line is officially 'Guard', but it is frequently sung as 'Guide' by the public.
