Chant de Ralliement
Written in 1928, "O Cameroon, Cradle of our Forefathers" was first an unofficial anthem for the nation. It was officially adopted in 1957 and its lyrics were slightly revised in 1978 to reach its current version.
The anthem's music and initial lyrics were written by René Djam Afame.
The song began to be used unofficially as "Chant de Ralliement" or "The Rallying Song."
On May 10, the anthem was officially adopted when Cameroon became an autonomous republic within France.
The anthem's lyrics were slightly revised to their present-day version.
Similar to Canada, Cameroon's anthem features distinct French and English lyrics to reflect the country's official bilingual status.
