Mila Rodino · Мила Родино
Bulgaria's national anthem, "Mila Rodino," was originally composed in 1885 by student Tsvetan Radoslavov. It was adopted in 1964, and its lyrics underwent significant revisions in 1990 following the fall of communism.
Tsvetan Radoslavov wrote and composed the song, initially titled “Proudly Rise the Balkan Peaks,” as he went to war.
The song was officially adopted as the national anthem of Bulgaria, renamed “Mila Rodino.”
Following the fall of the communist government, the anthem's lyrics underwent their latest revisions.
Verses promoting friendship with Russia and the Communist Party, added during the communist era, were removed from the lyrics.
The anthem's current title, “Mila Rodino” (Dear Homeland), uniquely comes from the first line of its chorus, not its first verse.
