American songwriter Irving Burgie, visiting Barbados, was asked to compose the anthem's lyrics.
A selection committee chose the musical composition by C. Van Roland Edwards.
The Barbados national anthem was officially adopted upon the country's independence on November 30.
The anthem's composer, C. Van Roland Edwards, had no formal music training and was partly blind, requiring assistance from his daughters.
